Tribute charity ride as a memorial to Tony Chappell 2017

Tickhill Velo Club (TVC) are proud to announce the 2nd tribute charity ride, as a memorial to Tony Chappell, a very popular Tickhill family man, and successful Doncaster businessman, who sadly passed away three years ago.

Tonys’ family have nominated the Chatsfield Suite of Doncaster Royal Infirmary, our local community day care chemotherapy centre, to be the recipient of the charitable funds raised, as it was here that Tony was so well treated in his final months.

TVC have selected a ride from Tickhill to Scarborough, and a return the following day, to mark the many enjoyable times the Chappell family spent there. It is to take place over the weekend of 21st/22nd May, along a 105 mile route from Tickhill to Scarborough, via Misterton, Goole and Market Weighton, and a 96 mile return route via Bridlington and the Humber Bridge.

Rob Drohan, the TVC member organising the event, is seen here meeting Lara Cunnane-Reay, the Chatsfield Suite Manager, discussing the way in which the funds raised will be used. Lara explained that the unit is working to improve the environment for patients and visitors, and in particular, would like to acquire more of the latest design of comfortable chairs for the patients receiving the chemotherapy treatments. These treatments involve several hours of sitting in one place whilst the process is undertaken. We hope that the charity ride will enable several new chairs to be provided, in the name of Tony Chappell, to recognise the lasting goodwill his memory invokes.

If you would like to join the ride, either in part or in full, please e-mail to register your interest, and further details will be provided.

For those who would like to sponsor the whole event, or the individual cyclists, we have set up a donation scheme with Just Giving – the page is entitled ‘Tickhill-Velo’. All funds raised will go directly to provide better facilities for cancer patient care in the Chatsfield Suite at DRI. Please support the Tickhill Velos in this event, aimed at creating improvements for our local community healthcare, in the name of Tony Chappell.
