Red ride to Lemon Tree at Epworth

Riders: Peter, Mike, Dean, Jon (T), Jon (P), Graham, Jenny, Paul, Mick

The planned ride had been Glapwell garden centre, but since half the Red ride were in Manchester recovering from Adrian’s stag do, the decision was made to meet the Blue ride at the Lemon Tree at Epworth.

There was no defined comfort bubble as we set off at a cracking pace through Harworth, Serlby, Ranskill and Mattersey. Pete was on the front making the most of the tail wind, by the time we got to Clayworth we had covered over 13 miles at an average pace of 19.7 mph, so Jon (T) and myself (Jenny) decided to knock the pace off a bit. As the faster boys vanished in the distance towards Gringley, Jon (T), Jenny, Dean and Pete remained together. After regrouping at Gringley we set off down hill towards Misterton, Dean had his first experience of high wind wobble on his new deep section wheels. Battling a strong headwind we made our way via Haxey to Epworth ready for some refreshment. The faster boys were just ahead of us in the queue, the Blue ride arrived just after.

After everyone was suitably refreshed, we had a combined group photo before we set off again into strong headwinds towards Idle Bank and Wroot. The fast group slowly disappeared again, not being seen until we were back at Tickhill. Pete sat in front of Jon (T) and myself and took the brutal headwind leading us back through Finningley and Austerfield at a cracking pace (lots of Strava PRs for me) at Bawtry we picked up Jon (P) then a steady ride back into Tickhill to average over 18mph for the ‘comfort bubble’ ride.

Kudos to Pete for sitting on the front in those strong headwinds

Well done to Jon (T) keeping up with Pete’s pain train
