There were three of us, me, Martin Crapper, Anita Twohig and Rob Drohan, waiting for upwards of 30 seconds to see if anyone else turned up before we set off. I’m happy to say that “Gismo” performed perfectly.
We headed into Tickhill and out southish - up the hill towards Maltby but then left along Blythgate so that we could go up Malpass Hill as well and then right along Thornbury Hill. No one to blame but me, but then I claim to like hills! We went through Firbeck and Letwell, Gildingwells and Woodsetts before reaching Shireoaks and then the canal.
The tow path was riddled with roots but we went slowly and survived. We met the occasional walker going in our direction but it was an easy and pleasant ride. There was a bit of a hiccup when we found the “road” closed but a simple diversion got us over a bridge and back on track. Another bridge helped us cross to the other side of the canal for the ride into Worksop.
The café looked closed but was open and darkish inside. The first floor gym had taken over the café area. Coffee was on offer in the reception area (no fancy options) and healthy snack bars. We sat out in the sun before heading off down the canal again.
With a bit of weaving we met the road leading up to Kilton Hill. From the top of the hill we put on speed until turning left towards Carlton.
Continuing on - Carlton, Langold and then Oldcotes where Rob left us to go home - we two continued and reached Tickhill without incident.
An enjoyable ride. Join us next week if you are able, you will enjoy it.
