First Ladies Ride 2025

Ride Organiser and Leader Jenny made the following comments about the ride.

With gusts reaching up to 40mph and rain on the forecast, it looked like the infamous curse of the Ladies Ride had struck once again! I half-expected to be the only one at Tickhill Cricket Club, but lo and behold— Diane, Karen, Christina, Kate, and Sue were there, ready to ride, proving once again that women are made of sterner stuff than storm warnings.

We rolled out of Tickhill, braving the wind as it did its best to break us, but spirits remained high—even as the pace slowed due to its ferocity! We battled on through Firbeck, North & South Anston and finally Whitwell after which there was a final roll down to Arrow Farm Café, where a table for six—and more importantly, cake—awaited us.

The coffee walnut flapjack was a unanimous hit, devoured with the enthusiasm of people who’d battled nature to earn their sugar. Laughter and chatter flowed freely.

Refuelled and revived, we set off again via Rhodesia and Worksop, with delightful cross-headwinds doing their best to remind us who was boss. It was a very blustery route back to Tickhill.

Special kudos to Diane, who tackled the entire ride fully loaded in preparation for our upcoming bikepacking trip to Amsterdam—chapeau, indeed!

Thanks ladies for making it such a fun and memorable day out.

Did I mention that headwind...? 😂
