Technology! Technology - whose idea was it any way. I’m sure we were all better off in the olden days when we had candles with little marks on the side so you knew what time it was and you had a bottom draw with a candle with an extra hour to bring out in October and a short one to use in March.

I know you were in the London Marathon or maybe you were on a park run but you missed a good ride today. We didn’t all miss out of course those that didn’t were: Matt Lowe (ride leader), Kevin Thomas, Pete Hanks, Christina Cooper, Ian who became John Huggins, and was the ghost throughout, together with Nick Kay for entertainment value. Blue feature ride to Lincoln' Steam Punk festival

We wandered through small and large villages on our way to the SUSTRANS route which would take us most of the way into Lincoln - South Wheatley, Sturton Le Steeple, North Leverton, South Leverton, Treswell, Stokeham and Laneham before bypassing Dunham on Trent and reaching the start of the off road bit at Fledborough, eleven and a half miles into the ride.

I’m sure improvisation is a key attribute of a less than average ride leader. So waking from an on-bike snooze I had us turning right on Job Lane without a flicker of consciousness. Fully awake by the end of Job Lane we turned left and rejoined the planned route in the centre of the village having desperately sought for an outstanding landmark to explain the “diversion”.
